The ensemble MaDaBa consists of the Syrian-Dutch composer, singer, and oud player Nawras Altaky, the Dutch pianist Tony Roe (Tin Men and the Telephone), and the Turkish-Dutch musician Sjahin During (Arifa, Namibian Tales). Their dynamic sound seamlessly combines the depth of Middle Eastern Maqam, the freedom of jazz improvisation, and the complexity of contemporary music.
Inspired by the ancient "city of mosaics," the name of the group reflects their desire to unite the past and present through music. Their original compositions blend enchanting melodies, dynamic rhythms, and captivating stories, showcasing the unique talents of each member.
